Spaan Enterprises, Inc was founded in 2010. Started as a sole proprietorship and became a corporation in June, 2012 and is located in Fremont, CA.
After leaving Cisco in 2009 I decided to go into consulting practice. This was my next step after accumulating 30 years of product design experience for the likes of Qualogy (Data Systems Design), 3Com and Cisco Systems.
During the 30 years I went from developing (DEC) and Multi-bus sub-sytems with 8" and 5 1/4 disc drives, 3Com 386 Workstation, and an array of Cisco routers & switches ranging from 1U to 41U rack mount systems, to participating in the development of the flagship full rack CRS switch/router. During this time I program managed several chassis projects from start to finish as well as participating as personal contributor.
Design methodology evolved from the velum & pencil on the drawing board, to 2D schematic capture, 3D wireframe Cadkey, to 3D solid modeling on SDRC IDEAS, ProE, and Solidworks.
Design esthetics evolved from simple boxes with bezels to elegant yet sophisticated full rack systems with doors, grille's, cable management and hot swappable FRU's.
Manufacturing went from soft tooled sheetmetal to stage die and progressive die modules or chassis. Injection molded and thermoformed plastics, sand cast, investment cast and die cast parts.
Prototyping evolved from traditional drawings for sheetmetal and plastic model making and prototyping, to 20 years of paperless file transfer for rapid prototyping using Stereo Lithography (SLA), Fusion Deposition Modeling (FDM), and Silicon Rubber Molds.
The now movement is 3D printing and manufacturing of plastics, metal, ceramics and more. We are embracing this technology which has made tremendous strides in recent years.
